FEATURES
Your Radio Shack Chronomatic-312 AM/FM LED Alarm
Clock Radio is a precision timepiece in a fun cube case.
It has these features:
Large Display — lets you easily read the clock display.
Choice of Alarms — lets you wake to the sound of a buzzer
or the radio.
Sleep Timer — plays the radio for up to 1 hour and 59 min-
utes before it automatically turns off.
Snooze Feature — silences the alarm and sets it to sound
again in about 9 minutes, so you can get a few extra minutes
of sleep.
Battery Backup — keeps the clock running for up to 8
hours if power is interrupted.

Battery Sentinel — lets you know when the backup battery
needs to be replaced.
Earphone Jack — lets you connect a monaural earphone
to listen in privacy.

PREPARATION
CONNECTING POWER
Plug the clock radio’s power cord into a standard AC outlet.
The display flashes.
Note: The power cord’s plug is polarized (one side is larger
than the other). If it does not fit, turn it over. Do not force it.
INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERY
To keep the clock running during an AC power failure, install
a 9-volt battery. We recommend an alkaline battery, such as
Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553.

Notes:
• To prevent unnecessary drain on the backup battery,
plug in the AC power cord before you install the battery.
• The clock’s display does not light while operating from
battery backup power, but the clock keeps time for up
to 8 hours.
• If the display flashes after a power failure, the battery is
too low to run the clock. Replace the battery and reset
the clock.

the cover in the direction of
the arrow and remove it.
2. Snap the battery into the bat-
tery terminals. Then put the
battery in the compartment.

3. Replace the cover.
The BATTERY SENTINEL lights automatically if the battery
needs to be replaced or is not installed.
USING EARPHONES
To listen in privacy, turn VOLUME to its lowest setting and
plug a monaural earphone with a 1/8-inch plug into the EAR-
PHONE jack. Your local Radio Shack store has a complete
line of earphones.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you
use an earphone.

• Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin
listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to
a comfortable level.
• Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended
high volume listening can lead to permanent hearing
loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time,
your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level
that does not cause discomfort might still damage your
hearing.

RADIO OPERATION
1. Set VOLUME counterclockwise
to its minimum setting.
2. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to ON to turn on the radio.
3. Set AM/FM to your desired band.
4. Adjust VOLUME as desired.
5. Adjust TUNING to tune to your desired station.
Note: The radio has two antennas. The AM antenna is
built-in. Rotate the radio for the best AM reception. For
the best FM reception, fully extend the power cord
which serves as the FM antenna.
6. Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF to turn off the radio.

CLOCK OPERATION
SETTING THE TIME
1. Press and hold TIME SET.
2. Repeatedly press (or press and hold) HOUR to set the
hour.
Note: The PM indicator lights for a PM hour.
3. Repeatedly press (or press and hold) MINUTE to set the
minutes.
4. Release TIME SET.
USING THE ALARM
To use the alarm, you must first set the alarm time and then
turn on the alarm.

Setting the Alarm Time
1. Press and hold ALARM SET.
2. Repeatedly press (or press and hold) HOUR to set the
alarm hour.
Note: The PM indicator lights for a PM hour.
3. Repeatedly press (or press and hold) MINUTE to set the
alarm minutes.
4. Release ALARM SET.
Notes:
• When you release ALARM SET, the current time returns
to the display.

• To view the alarm time while the current time is dis-
played, press ALARM SET.
Turning the Alarm Buzzer/Radio On or Off
You can set your clock radio to either sound a buzzer or play
the radio at the preset alarm time.
To sound a buzzer, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to ALARM.
To play the radio, make sure the radio is tuned to your de-
sired station. Then set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to AUTO.
To turn off the buzzer or radio, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to
OFF or press ALARM SET.

Notes:
• The
indicator on the lower left corner of the display
lights when the alarm is turned on.
• If you do not turn off the alarm, the buzzer or radio
sounds for 1 hour, 59 minutes.
• If you press ALARM SET to silence the alarm, the alarm
sounds again the next day at the preset alarm time.
• If you set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF to silence the
alarm, you must set it to AUTO or ALARM again to have
the alarm sound the next day at the preset alarm time.
Using SNOOZE
To silence the alarm but have it sound again in about 9 min-
utes, press SNOOZE.

Notes:
• You can repeatedly press SNOOZE for up to 1 hour and
59 minutes. After 1 hour and 59 minutes, the alarm
buzzer or radio does not come on again until the next
day at the preset alarm time.
• If BATTERY SENTINEL lights when you press SNOOZE,
the backup battery is getting low.
USING THE SLEEP TIMER
You can set the radio to play for up to 1 hour and 59 minutes
and then automatically turn off.
To set the sleep timer, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF, AUTO,
or ALARM, then press SLEEP.

For a playing time of 59 minutes or less, press and hold
down SLEEP. Then repeatedly press (or press and hold)
MINUTE until the display shows the desired minute setting.
For a playing time between 1 hour and 1 hour, 59 minutes,
press and hold down SLEEP. Then press HOUR until the sleep
timer passes 0:00and 1:59shows on the display. Contin-
ue to hold down SLEEP and press MINUTE until the display
shows the desired setting.
To turn off the sleep timer before it automatically turns off,
press SNOOZE.

THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW
Your Radio Shack Chronomatic-312 AM/FM LED Alarm
Clock Radio might cause TV or radio interference even
when it is operating properly. To determine whether your
clock radio is causing the interference, turn it off. If the inter-
ference goes away, your clock radio is causing the interfer-
ence. Try to eliminate the interference by:
• Moving your clock radio away from the receiver
• Contacting your local Radio Shack store for help
If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires
that you stop using the clock radio.

MAINTENANCE
The following suggestions will help you care for your clock
radio so you can enjoy it for years.
• Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type.
• Keep the clock radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry imme-
diately.
• Keep the clock radio away from dust and dirt.
• Use and store the clock radio only in normal tempera-
ture environments.
• Handle the clock radio gently and carefully.
• Wipe the clock radio with a damp cloth occasionally to
keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, clean-
ing solvents, or strong detergents to clean the clock
radio.

Modifying or tampering with the clock radio’s internal com-
ponents can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its
warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If
your clock radio is not performing as it should, take it to your
local Radio Shack store for assistance.
